Vor 25 Jahren hat Searcher Clade (Stimme im Original
Jake Gyllenhaal) eine Elektrizitaet liefernde Pflanze
entdeckt, die seitdem sein komplett von unueberwindbaren
Bergen eingeschlossenes Heimatreich Avalonia in ein
strahlendes Utopia verwandelt hat. Doch als die
Pflanze zu verrotten droht, muss der Farmer das
machen, was er ueber alles hasst: sich auf ein Abenteuer
begeben und tief ins Innere zur Wurzel der Pflanze
reisen. Gemeinsam mit seinem sich heimlich der
Expedition anschliessenden Sohn Ethan (Jaboukie Young-White)
und seiner taffen Frau Meridian (Gabrielle Union)
entdeckt er dort eine wundersame Welt voller bunter
Lebewesen. Und er trifft auf seinen Vater Jaeger
(Dennis Quaid , einen legendaeren Abenteurer, der seit
einer Mission vor 25 Jahren verschollen war. Gemeinsam
muessen die Clades erst einmal wieder zu einer Familie
werden und vor allem die Vaeter die Differenzen mit
ihren jeweiligen Shnen ueberbruecken, bevor sie ihre
Welt retten koennen.
