Thanos (Josh Brolin) und Peter Quills Vater Ego (Kurt Russell) sind zwar Geschichte, aber die von ihnen verursachten Schäden sind sowohl im Universum als auch bei den Guardians Of The Galaxy nach wie vor spürbar. Während Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) noch immer Gamora (Zoe Saldana) hinterhertrauert, hat seine Truppe die ehemalige intergalaktische Minenkolonie Knowhere mittlerweile zu ihrem Hauptquartier und einer Zufluchtstätte für Ausgestoßene umgemodelt. Doch findet der Frieden hier ein jähes Ende, als der mächtige Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), eine Kreation der rachsüchtigen Sovereign-Hohepriesterin Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), Knowhere attackiert. Um einen der ihren zu retten, begeben sich Star-Lord, Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Stimme im Original: Vin Diesel) und Co. daraufhin auf eine kosmische Odyssee, die eng mit der traumatischen Vergangenheit von Rocket (Bradley Cooper) verknüpft ist, welcher einst vom nach Perfektion strebenden High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) erschaffen wurde...
